BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

Are you fluent verbally in both Ukrainian and Danish and/or English? Are you ready to make a difference alongside language officers and civilian-military interpreters involved in the Danish Armed Forces’ efforts to support Ukraine?

If so, we invite you to apply for the standby position as a civilian interpreter with the Armed Forces Language Academy (AFLA).

Om os

The AFLA is responsible for the education of language officers in Arabic and Russian. The education combines language, cultural studies, and military subjects and offers an exceptionally intensive learning environment. After completing the education, language officers fulfil duties as interpreters and cultural advisors in the Danish Defence’s international missions, while also supporting the national structure as reserve officers.
In addition to the language officer education, the AFLA also trains civilian-military interpreters and provides English training at the three Officers Academies. Furthermore, we are responsible for preparing and deploying language officers and civilian-military interpreters for international missions, as well as supporting the rest of the Armed Forces with various foreign language related tasks.
AFLA is a military institution under the Royal Danish Defence College, currently employing approximately 25 personnel, including civilian language teachers and military personnel. We are currently establishing a new interpreter element dedicated to supporting Ukraine.

Om stillingen

As a Ukrainian-speaking civilian interpreter affiliated with the AFLA, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the Danish Armed Forces’ efforts in supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Being affiliated means that you are not obligated to provide service but can make yourself available for interpreter assignments of varying durations. When called in for an assignment, you will work as part of a small interpreter team comprising civilian-military interpreters and language officers. Together, you will prepare for and undertake the majority of your tasks. These tasks may involve both short and medium-length trips within Denmark and other countries with which Denmark collaborates.
To work as a Ukrainian-speaking civilian interpreter in the Danish Defence, you must undergo a mandatory basic course that introduces you to Danish military interpreting standards and familiarizes you with the Danish Armed Forces as a workplace. The course will last for two weeks and is scheduled to take place during September-October 2023. Upon your successful application, you will receive further information about the course, including a detailed schedule. You will receive a salary during your participation in the course.
After completing the civilian interpreter course, you will join the interpreter standby roster at the AFLA. From there, you can apply for interpreter assignments related to the support to Ukraine.
The AFLA is located at Svanemøllens Barracks in Copenhagen. During preparation periods at the AFLA or while at home, working hours will be stable and primarily within regular daily working hours. However, during assignments throughout the country, you should expect long and intense working days, sometimes including weekends.

Om dig

You have a high level of proficiency in Ukrainian and Danish and/or English, and you are eager to work as an interpreter, providing language support to the Danish Armed Forces’ efforts in support of Ukraine.
You possess strong teamwork skills, adaptability, and the ability to quickly grasp new tasks.
Previous experience in interpreting and/or military experience is a significant advantage, but not a requirement.
Valid work and residence permit in Denmark is a requirement.

Ansættelsesvilkår

You will be employed on an individual affiliation agreement as a civilian interpreter, with a current hourly wage of 194.10 DKK per hour, including a 15% pension contribution, which is paid together with the salary. Additionally, you will accrue 12.5% holiday allowance, which is transferred to a holiday account on a monthly basis.
The affiliation agreement has a duration of four years from the start of employment, during which you may work on relevant assignments ranging from daily to longer durations. There is no service obligation for either party: Just as you are not obliged to perform any service during the contract period, the Danish Defence is also not obligated to offer you any assignments for the duration of the contract. You will not receive any ongoing compensation for being available under the affiliation agreement, but will be remunerated based on the actual hours worked, calculated per half-hour increments.
Your permanent duty station will be your place of residence, from where you can accept assignments taking place throughout Denmark or in countries with which Denmark collaborates. When you are assigned to a task, the Danish Defence will either provide transportation or cover the cost of the most affordable public transportation option from your residence to the temporary duty station.
